The essential guide to independent music and beyond.
Indie-music tastemaker Pitchfork started as a kind of online fanzine in the mid-1990s and eventually morphed into the premier independent-music-scene chronicle. Nowadays it houses a mammoth repository of album and song reviews, features, columns, staff picks, “best new music” lists and seasonal guides to upcoming releases. Known for its shrewd critiques as well as its writers’ occasionally overwrought reviews, there’s no better place to keep tabs on groups like Grizzly Bear, Iron & Wine, Deerhunter, the Antlers and Arcade Fire.
